Elton John Foundation for AIDS Argento Ball 2019: Wednesday 26th June 2019, Old Windsor, UK
Last year to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Elton John AIDS Foundation, Sir Elton John hosted one of the summer’s biggest events, the Argento Ball. This year is no different and Elton will be hosting the ball at his Old Windsor estate, a stunning mansion with 37 acres of gardens, located on the edge of Windsor Great Park in Berkshire. The Argento Ball plays host to a variety of celebrities, last year attendees included Victoria Beckham, Russell Tovey, Elizabeth Hurley, Marina Abramović, Tracey Emin and Maria Sharapova. With the event being in association with Bulgari and Bob and Tamar Manoukian, this black tie event is clearly not to be missed. Guests were treated to a three-course dinner of Wye Valley asparagus and Laverstoke burrata, pan-fried halibut and lobster butter croquette, polished off with that old English classic rhubarb and custard, while Ed Sheeran provided the night’s entertainment. Adding to the special performance by Ed Sheeran, Trustee of the Foundation Graham Norton joined as host. Nicole Parker, whose many roles have included Elphaba in the Broadway production of the musical Wicked also treated us to some of her legendary impressions featured on MAD TV. If that wasn’t enough Paddle 8 auction house founder Alexander Gilkes was a pro at orchestrating the auction, prizes included a breakfast with Victoria Beckham and a McLaren car. However, the chance to experience the next Gucci catwalk show in Florence with Elton proved to be most popular, ending the night dancing with a DJ set from the Platinum Award-winning band, Rudimental. We can only imagine what is planned for this year!
The Foundation, which is dedicated to reducing the spread of HIV and AIDS and eliminating the stigma associated with the disease, last year raised an extraordinary £4.2 million, which will go towards tackling the ever-rising incidences of HIV diagnosis in young people. In 2017 alone an estimated 200,000 people from that demographic were infected with the disease.
